MY HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
Tuesday, September 1 was my anniversary. It would have been Ethan's and my eighth wedding anniversary, plus it was the 20th anniversary of the UFO sighting I had in 1989 when I met Ethan up at McClure Pass.
Naturally, I was apprehensive about how I would face the day. In one of the cards he had left for me, which I found a couple of weeks after his passing, Ethan had instructed me to "remember" our anniversary. I will always remember our anniversary -- the one on September first, but also the one on February 17th, which was really the start of our new life together.
Yesterday morning I had a special dream. In the dream I was going somewhere with my little family (my oldest son, his wife and my grandchild) when suddenly I heard Ethan's voice call my name: "Annie!" I turned around and he was standing inside the door to a house (mine?). He was smiling at me and he was wearing a white shirt that seemed to glow. "I'm home," he told me.
With a cry of excitement I ran over to fall into his arms. What a pleasant way to wake up on the morning of our anniversary. I believe Ethan paid me a visit in that way, to say he remembered our special day.
Another anniversary is fast approaching, the day of his passing, which was September 12th. It's sometimes hard for me to realize that a whole year has passed already. There have been so many changes and adjustments in my life. Mostly I have moved forward, and I know I have Ethan to thank at least partially, because he is watching over me and guiding me in the direction I need to go.
It is important to know that death is not the end. It is just a doorway through which we all must go, sooner or later, just like the doorway we came through when we entered this world, shielded from the memories of eternity that might have kept us from growing at the right pace.
