WHY MONDAY IS MY FAVORITE DAY

WHY IS MONDAY MY FAVORITE DAY?  Most people would speculate that I must be crazy. Most people DREAD Mondays. They have to go back to work after the weekend, and there is usually a lot of work to catch up on. At least, that was the case when I was a "working girl."

Last year I "retired" -- well, kind of -- from the newspaper world when I quit HCN to move to Ohio and take care of my ailing husband. When you retire, the days kind of blend together. The first thing you do is lose track of what day it is. It is easy to get mixed up, especially when you stay home most of the time and your daily routine is the "same-o same-o."

Our weekends usually involve visits from family members, which is something we look forward to. I usually clean house at the end of the week and end up cooking a nice big meal. By Sunday night I'm exhausted!

That's why when Monday morning rolls around, I'm thrilled at the start of a brand new week, a brand new chance to get done all those things in my life I want to get done. There's comfort in staying home and getting things done in your leisure. No doubt that's the key word: "leisure."

There's no rushing around like before, trying to squeeze this in and that... no deadlines, unless I want them... and I can loaf whenever I feel like it, without feeling I'm doing it on "company time."

On Monday I feel I have the whole week ahead of me. By Friday I'm thinking, "Whoa, this week sure went by fast. Where did it go?"

And that's just the way it is.
